Education is becoming a hot topic during the election this month with parties debating what they believe to be the most beneficial arrangements for our children’s future. The conservatives have announced their plan, should they be re-elected, to re-test children who fail to achieve good SAT scores in primary school. This was released with the findings from a recent study which demonstrated how 7% of those who are unsuccessful in their SAT exams, do not manage to achieve 5 or more GCSE’s grades A-C. This shows how a child’s ability at 11 years old can have a large impact on their progression and success throughout secondary school.
Katie Newton, KSOL tutor comments:
“It is vital for children to secure their core Maths and English knowledge by the end of Year 6 so that they are able to progress through secondary school with the ability to achieve the qualifications that will set them up for life.”
Teachers are put under increasing pressure to match pass rates and as a result, children are being prepared to pass exams rather than being taught a full and structured skills set which will allow them to succeed in their school career and later in life. Furthermore, unless a primary teacher is prepared to differentiate lessons to the point of frequently exploring secondary level topics (whilst simultaneously teaching specific topics to a wide range of ability levels) then a child’s knowledge will not be stretched to its full potential.
Additional tuition is a solution that can help support a child and brighten their future. KSOL specialises in the tuition of skills and processes required to tackle problem solving and reasoning in any context put in front of a child. KSOL’s TargetTeach® system provides children with the right questions to increase cognitive ability. They cater for all children, providing them with a structure, timed conditions and a place to apply their knowledge to any (including exam style) questions.
With KSOL’s personalised education and support from home, the transition to any secondary school will be smoother and a child’s abilities less likely to stagnate or regress. Furthermore, elevated attainment now, will more likely lead to success later in a child’s school career.
