Sitting an exam is a stressful experience. Many parents may feel concerned about adding pressure onto their child by entering them into mock exams, especially as they are so young and it is so early in the year. However, entrance exams are different to those that children may sit in school so it is vital that they become familiar with not only the format, but type of content and the atmosphere of these events.
Here are 3 key reasons why you should consider enrolling your child onto an 11plus mock exam:
1. Environment. One of the most daunting elements of the exam may not be the content itself but the set up (even if they take it within their primary school). The real-life exam atmosphere can be a great cause for stress and throw many children off-balance. This is a natural reaction. However, you do not want this to happen during the real 11+ entrance exam. Sitting mock exams will help to alleviate fears as children become familiar with the environment. Easing anxiety is vital.
2. Identify weak areas. Completing a full mock exam also gives you the benefit of finding out where they are in their preparation. Maybe they performed lower than you expected in Maths, or perhaps they lost marks towards the end of each section. KSOL invigilators are your eyes and ears; we will monitor how your child conducts them self throughout the paper and comment upon their techniques. This kind of knowledge will give you the opportunity to focus their revision or in fact develop their time management skills and exam techniques. Every little bit of preparation helps.
3. Practice makes perfect! One of the best ways to fly through this type of exam is to practise! The more children are exposed to the format and type of questions, the easier they will find it. KSOL have a team dedicated to ensuring that every exam is specific to each region and reflects the real thing. As children become comfortable with the look and feel of their particular exam, they will be able to focus on answering the questions to the best of their ability.
