The 11 plus is a set of entrance exams taken by children at the age of 11 (or the beginning of Year 6) when applying to selective Grammar or Independent Schools.

The exams are designed to test a child’s academic ability and often include sections in Maths, English, Verbal skills, Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) and on occasion, creative writing.

It is a very competitive entrance process, and in the majority of areas that use selective education, on average, only 1 in 10 children manage to gain a space.

As such, many parents opt to tutor their children (whether independently or privately).

If your child is going to be sitting an 11 plus exam, the next few months of preparation are crucial.
